The decade commonly called the “Dirty Thirties” brought many challenges to residents of the Great Plains. Drought, heat, and wind hit the region early. When combined with man’s lack of knowledge about the environment, these elements created what is known today as the “Dust Bowl” in western Kansas, the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, and southeastern Colorado. Suitable for all grade levels.
